Such modulation can matter for speech </span><span>processing, since the latter involves the tracking of slow amplitude fluctuations in speech by cortical activity. </span><span>tACS with a current signal that follows the envelope of a speech stimulus has indeed been found to influence the </span><span>cortical tracking and to modulate the comprehension of the speech in background noise. However, how exactly </span><span>tACS influences the speech-related cortical activity, and how it causes the observed effects on speech compre</span><span>hension, remains poorly understood. A computational model for cortical speech processing in a biophysically </span><span>plausible spiking neural network has recently been proposed. Here we extended the model to investigate the </span><span>effects of different types of stimulation waveforms, similar to those previously applied in experimental studies, </span><span>on the processing of speech in noise. We assessed in particular how well speech could be decoded from the neural </span><span>network activity when paired with the exogenous stimulation. We found that, in the absence of current stimu</span><span>lation, the speech-in-noise decoding accuracy was comparable to the comprehension of speech in background </span><span>noise of human listeners. We further found that current stimulation could alter the speech decoding accuracy </span><span>by a few percent, comparable to the effects of tACS on speech-in-noise comprehension. Our simulations further </span><span>allowed us to identify the parameters for the stimulation waveforms that yielded the largest enhancement of </span><span>speech-in-noise encoding. Our model thereby provides insight into the potential neural mechanisms by which </span><span>weak alternating current stimulation may influence speech comprehension and allows to screen a large range of </span><span>stimulation waveforms for their effect on speech processing</span></p></div> <div class="clearfix text-formatted field field--name-field-paper field--type-text field--label-above"> <div class="field__label">Статья</div> <div class="field__item">https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1053811920309125?via%3Dihub</div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-seminar-link field--type-link field--label-above"> <div class="field__label">Ссылка</div> <div class="field__item"><a href="https://zoom.us/j/97210215884">https://zoom.us/j/97210215884</a></div> </div> Mon, 31 May 2021 22:52:44 +0000 admin 74 at http://ibrainproject.eu The when and what of episodic encoding http://ibrainproject.eu/en/node/73 <span class="field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden">The when and what of episodic encoding</span> <span class="field field--name-uid field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden"><span lang="" about="/ru/user/1" typeof="schema:Person" property="schema:name" datatype="">admin</span></span> <span class="field field--name-created field--type-created field--label-hidden">пн, 04/26/2021 - 15:10</span> <div class="field field--name-field-date field--type-datetime field--label-inline clearfix"> <div class="field__label">Дата</div> <div class="field__item"><time datetime="2021-04-29T08:00:00Z" class="datetime">чт, 04/29/2021 - 11:00</time> </div> </div> <div class="clearfix text-formatted field field--name-field-presenter field--type-text field--label-above"> <div class="field__label">Докладчик</div> <div class="field__item">Aya Ben-Yaakov</div> </div> <div class="clearfix text-formatted field field--name-field-presenter-position field--type-text-long field--label-above"> <div class="field__label">Позиция</div> <div class="field__item"><p>Research Fellow at MRC Cognition and Brain Science Unit,</p> <p>University of Cambridge</p></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-organizer field--type-list-string field--label-inline clearfix"> <div class="field__label">Организатор</div> <div class="field__item">National Research University – Higher School of Economics</div> </div> <div class="clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item"><p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>In striving for experimental control, studies of human episodic memory have focused mainly on encoding of brief, stationary events. Different approaches emphasize different aspects of this construct including emotional, cognitive, and social self. Moreover, some authors deny its reality altogether claiming that the self is just an illusion. From the point of view of social science, the intersubjective or social aspects are the most important aspects of self. One of the most popular approaches to the study of these aspects is contrasting self-referential with other-referential processing in the trait adjective judgment task. In our study, using fMRI functional connectivity data, we aimed to directly compare the involvement of the default mode network (DMN) versus external attention-related task-positive networks (TPN) during self- and other- referential processing for different others varying in the degree of their closeness to the self. We hypothesized that the DMN versus TPN balance should linearly decrease during evaluation of self, close-other, distant-other, and an unpleasant person.</p> <p>Login password will be sent upon request after filling out the registration form.</p> <p><strong>Fill out the registration form:</strong> <a href="https://neuro.hse.ru/en/ilsn/polls/452697722.html">https://neuro.hse.ru/en/ilsn/polls/452697722.html</a></p></div> <div class="field field--name-field-seminar-link field--type-link field--label-above"> <div class="field__label">Ссылка</div> <div class="field__item"><a href="/j/85758888293?pwd=OHFhQ0s1SXlhcFhPbWZpWWtkKzVOUT09">/j/85758888293?pwd=OHFhQ0s1SXlhcFhPbWZpWWtkKzVOUT09</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-time-zone field--type-list-string field--label-above"> <div class="field__label">Время</div> <div class="field__item">Moscow time</div> </div> Fri, 23 Apr 2021 17:48:46 +0000 admin 71 at http://ibrainproject.eu Neural underpinning of episodic memory encoding and retrieval: iEEG research http://ibrainproject.eu/ru/node/70 <span class="field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden">Neural underpinning of episodic memory encoding and retrieval: iEEG research</span> <span class="field field--name-uid field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden"><span lang="" about="/ru/user/1" typeof="schema:Person" property="schema:name" datatype="">admin</span></span> <span class="field field--name-created field--type-created field--label-hidden">чт, 04/22/2021 - 23:25</span> <div class="field field--name-field-date field--type-datetime field--label-inline clearfix"> <div class="field__label">Дата</div> <div class="field__item"><time datetime="2021-04-15T08:00:00Z" class="datetime">чт, 04/15/2021 - 11:00</time> </div> </div> <div class="clearfix text-formatted field field--name-field-presenter field--type-text field--label-above"> <div class="field__label">Докладчик</div> <div class="field__item">Alicia Vorobiova</div> </div> <div class="clearfix text-formatted field field--name-field-presenter-position field--type-text-long field--label-above"> <div class="field__label">Позиция</div> <div class="field__item"><p>Junior Research Fellow, Centre for Cognition &amp; The present work is primarily concerned with alterations of the sense of agency (SoA) following motor suggestions. When people respond to the suggestion that their arm is rising up all by itself, they usually have a feeling of passivity for their action. The mechanisms leading to such alterations of the SoA are still controversial. We propose a theoretical model based on the framework of predictive coding: The view that the brain constantly generates hypotheses that predict sensory input at varying levels of abstraction and minimizes prediction errors either by updating its prior hypotheses—perceptual inference—or by modifying sensory input through action—active inference. We argue that suggested motor behavior and the experience of passivity accompanying it can be accounted for in terms of active inference. We propose that motor suggestions optimize both proprioceptive predictions and actual proprioceptive evidence through attentional modulation. The comparison between predicted and actual sensory evidence leads to highly precise prediction errors that call for an explanation. The motor suggestion readily supplies such an explanation by providing a prior of non agency to the subject. We present this model in detail and discuss how it relates to, and differs from, other recent models of hypnosis. We compare its predictions with the predictions derivable from these other models. We also discuss the potential application of our predictive account to reality and memory alterations in hypnosis and offer an explanation of interindividual differences in hypnotic suggestibility</p></div> <div class="field field--name-field-seminar-link field--type-link field--label-above"> <div class="field__label">Ссылка</div> <div class="field__item"><a href="https://zoom.us/j/98378195733">https://zoom.us/j/98378195733</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-paper-file field--type-file field--label-above"> <div class="field__label">Статья</div> <div class="field__item"> <span class="file file--mime-application-pdf file--application-pdf"> <a href="http://ibrainproject.eu/sites/default/files/2021-04/Alterations%20of%20agency%20in%20hypnosis_A%20new%20predictive__coding%20model_Jean-R%C3%A9my%20Martin%2C%20Elisabeth%20Pacherie.pdf" type="application/pdf; length=1058837">Alterations of agency in hypnosis_A new predictive__coding model_Jean-Rémy Martin, Elisabeth Pacherie.pdf</a></span> </div> </div> Thu, 22 Apr 2021 16:49:40 +0000 admin 69 at http://ibrainproject.eu An E/I-balanced perspective on brain function http://ibrainproject.eu/en/node/68 <span class="field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden">An E/I-balanced perspective on brain function</span> <span class="field field--name-uid field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden"><span lang="" about="/ru/user/1" typeof="schema:Person" property="schema:name" datatype="">admin</span></span> <span class="field field--name-created field--type-created field--label-hidden">ср, 03/10/2021 - 19:24</span> <div class="field field--name-field-date field--type-datetime field--label-inline clearfix"> <div class="field__label">Дата</div> <div class="field__item"><time datetime="2021-03-11T15:00:00Z" class="datetime">чт, 03/11/2021 - 18:00</time> </div> </div> <div class="clearfix text-formatted field field--name-field-presenter field--type-text field--label-above"> <div class="field__label">Докладчик</div> <div class="field__item">Klaus Linkenkaer Hansen</div> </div> <div class="clearfix text-formatted field field--name-field-presenter-position field--type-text-long field--label-above"> <div class="field__label">Позиция</div> <div class="field__item"><p>Klaus Linkenkaer Hansen is an Assistant Professor, Amsterdam Neuroscience - Brain Imaging and Associate Professor, Integrative Neurophysiology.</p> <p> </p></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-organizer field--type-list-string field--label-inline clearfix"> <div class="field__label">Организатор</div> <div class="field__item">Institute of Higher Nervous Activity and Neurophysiology of RAS</div> </div> <div class="clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item"><p>The talk will be based on his recent paper: “<a href="https://research.vu.nl/en/publications/measurement-of-excitation-inhibition-ratio-in-autism-spectrum-dis">Measurement of excitation-inhibition ratio in autism spectrum disorder using critical brain dynamics</a></p> <p>Bruining, H., Hardstone, R., Juarez-Martinez, E.
